Top Ten Points from Susi Billingsley's Talk on January 13, 2017

Instructions: Read the top ten points and make sure you understand them. If you don't ask your teacher, or a friend to help you. If you like, you may even translate them into Italian. (Sorry, the only other languages I might be able to read would be French and Spanish).   During class, to practice conversation, use the verb expressions below to express your ideas, opinions, and suggestions about your future work in either fashion, styling, interior design, or communications.

1.  Foundations:  study, study, study.  Go deep, learn your fashion + art + architectural history. Know your references, key intersection and cross points touched upon the fashion community over the decades.

2.  Passion:  find the center of it within you.  It will be the place that drives and charges and sustains you throughout your efforts as you build your identity through ups and downs.

3.  Integrity:  it is the core of you, the brand of you. Be consistent and true always, it will pay on the long run.

4.  Lxicon and aesthetic territory:  develop and own your unique vision, find and be your 'genius loci'

5  Be very demanding of your work and output.  work hard, question everything, know your references, and reflect deeply on what you do and why. That is the place where the conversation on your brand and identity shall start and will be challenged.

6.  Sustainability  is the Future. Build your Code of Ethics. Social and environmental footprint, supply chain and stakeholders will all play a role reflecting the values of your brand. Transparency and integrity are key as you tell your story.

7.  Digital footprints  are stored forever, so plan your brand carefully, so as to build a consistent vision throughout the years.

8.  3D printing:  it's the wave of the future, as well as engineered web textiles 2.0 and 3.0 will build the new going forward.

9.  Be professional and apply the spirit of teamwork in everything you do.

10. Thank-you notes or email must be sent within 24 hours of meeting someone, whether it be an interview,  a new business contact, or someone who has contributed to your project.
